I'm very excited to share my forthcoming picture book biography with you, TO BOLDLY GO: HOW NICHELLE NICHOLS AND STAR TREK HELPED ADVANCE CIVIL RIGHTS (HarperCollins, January 2023), illustrated by New York Times bestselling illustrator, Lauren Semmer (The ABCs of Black History).
We’re partnering with Sistah Scifi Bookstore in Oakland to put together a spectacular virtual launch in January where we’ll discuss on the ground-breaking impact Ms. Nichols made in her lifetime, the inspiration for the picture book, a reading, and Q&A.! In the meantime, you can preorder signed copies from the Sistah Scifi online store or unsigned copies at Bookshop.org, a Black-owned bookstore, or wherever you buy books!
And, if you just can't wait for January to celebrate, you can watch this IG LIVE discussion between myself and the wonderful Isis Asare, owner of Sistah Scifi Bookstore! It felt incredible to finally be able to talk a little bit about the inspiration and writing process for the book, and to see the director of the documentary about Ms. Nichols, Woman in Motion, on the live! If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend watching to see Nichelle in all her beautiful boldness.
As always, I'm forever in gratitude of your support for my work.
